Golden Eagles Win NCGA National Championship

Brockport claims their first ever national championship

FINAL TEAM RESULTS

The College at Brockport Women's Gymnastics team finished in a tie for first-place at the 2012 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championships with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. It is the first time in school history the Golden Eagles have been named National Champions and the first time in the history of the NCGA that there has been co-national champions. The Golden Eagles finished with a team-score of 188.050. It is also the first National Championship for UW-Whitewater as well.

Junior Elizabeth Levy (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) came in first place in the all-around event with a total score of 37.650, beating the second-place finisher by .250 points. Levy best finish was on the uneven bars where she came in seventh place with a score of 9.250. The juniors highest score came on the balance beam at 9.550 to finish 10th. Levy scored a 9.450 on the on the vault and a 9.400 on the floor exercise.

Brockport's top performance as a team came when they needed it most. In their last event, the Golden Eagles took to the balance beam and scored a 47.900, the top score at the meet and second-best score in school history. Rockafellow was the top Golden Eagle as she finished fourth with a score of 9.675. Kileigh Chapman (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) came in seventh with a score of 9.650. Taylor Wierzba (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) came in a tie for eleventh at 9.525.

Gabrielle Petitto (Selden, NY/Newfield) posted the top score on the vault for the Golden Eagles with a score of 9.550. Jessica Rockafellow (Grand Blanc, MI/Grand Blanc) and Olivia Sylvestro (Palm City, FL/Martin County) finished tied for twelfth place with a score of 9.525. As a team, Brockport posted a score of 47.550, second to UW-Whitewater.

Brockport finished with the third-best team score on the floor exercise with a 46.875 overall. Wierzba, who has been dominant on the floor all year, finished in a tie for fifth place at 9.575. Chapman also posted a 9.400, tied with Levy for 18th.

On the uneven bars, Chapman placed third overall with a score of 9.475 to help lead the Golden Eagles to an overall score of 45.725 on the bars.
