ITHACA, N.Y. – The College at Brockport wrestling team participated in the NYS Intercollegiate Championships on Sunday, going up against teams from all levels of collegiate athletics, including Division I.
Triston Engle (197) and
Jacob Morris (285) both earned wins in the "A" division, led by Engle who earned three wins before falling to his opponent due to injury. Morris pinned his opening round opponent in 5:12 before falling by an 11-1 decision to Columbia University's Garret Ryan. He fought back in the consolation bracket, defeating Cortland's Nick Lupi in a tight 2-0 decision, before eventually meeting his match against Francis Walter of Merchant Marine Academy.
Another bright spot for the Golden Eagles came in the "B" division at the 125-lb weight class, where
Jonathan Haas went the distance, earning five straight wins to take the top spot. The bracket included wrestlers from Ithaca, Cortland, Oswego, and Cornell.
The #21 ranked Brockport wrestling team will have a short layoff before traveling to York, Pa. on December third for the New Standard Invite.
