BROCKPORT, N.Y. –
Jonathan Haas of the wrestling team has been named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) wrestler of the week for the week ending January 22, 2017. This recognition comes on the heels of Haas being named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the ECWC Championships this past weekend after his first place finish in the 125-lb weight class.
Haas' week began with a victory by fall in Tuesday evenings dual meet against Oswego State's Jack Del Duca. The Spencerport, N.Y. native needed just 2:32 to pin his opponent, earning the first six points for his team which would eventually top Oswego by a 35-10 margin.
At the ECWC Championships, Haas was awarded the No. 2 seed, earning him a first round bye. He then went on to win each of his next three bouts, capped off in the finals where he took down top seeded Jimmy Kaishian of Ithaca College in a tightly contested 4-3 decision.
Haas and the rest of the Brockport team will travel to RIT tomorrow evening for a dual match beginning at 7 pm before heading to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday for the WPI Duals where they'll face Southern Maine, Johnson and Wales, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
