Section V Honors Head Coach Don Murray With HOF Induction

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Head Brockport wrestling coach Don Murray was honored by Section V last night with an induction in the Section V Hall of Fame. Murray, who is in his 47th season as head coach of the Golden Eagles was rewarded for his numerous contributions to the section over the years.

Pictured above with Murray is one of his former wrestlers, John Leone, who nominated his collegiate coach for this prestigious honor. Leone was just one example of the tremendous success Murray has sustained at Brockport. A four-time All-America selection, three-time SUNYAC champion, and both state and national champion in 1987, Leone has now followed Murray's footsteps into the coaching world, building a powerhouse wrestling program at Penfield High School.

Not only is Coach Murray one of the longest tenured wrestling coaches in NCAA history, he's also one of the most successful. In his time at Brockport, he's led the team to five NCAA team titles, 13 Final Four appearances, 36 conference and three NYS titles, and a National Dual Meet championship. He's also been named the National Division III Coach of the Year twice.

The strong bond between Coach Murray's wrestling program and Section V wrestling will be put on display Saturday afternoon when Brockport hosts the Section V wrestling championships in the Special Events Recreation Center (SERC), which will also feature a dual meet between the Golden Eagles and the University of Scranton.
