CORTLAND, N.Y. – The No. 11 ranked College at Brockport wrestling team had a strong showing at Saturday's Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) tournament, placing second overall as a team.
Jonathan Haas,
Sean Peacock, and
Triston Engle all brought home first place finishes, while a number of other wrestlers had high finishes.
In the 125-lb weight class, Haas breezed by all of his opponents, using a pair of pins to get to the championship bout where he beat Oswego's Hunter Howland by a 13-3 major decision. Haas is still undefeated in 2017-18, and is the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country at the 125-lb weight class.
Dillon Stowell won his first two bouts at 133 to move into the semifinals, where he dropped a tough 8-6 decision to Oneonta's Kevin Knox. The senior bounced back though, defeating Tito Colom of Ithaca to earn third place in the weight class.
Nathan Walker nearly took home the top spot at 141, falling 7-6 in the championship bout to settle for second place. Brockport also took third at 141, as
Zack Barker fought all the way back after losing his first bout of the day, winning four straight to earn himself a spot on the podium.
Peacock went 3-0 on the day with wins coming by fall, decision, and major decision to win the 149-lb weight class. The seniors championship bout came against Cortland's Matt Caputo, who he beat with a 12-2 major decision.
Jackson Bell had a strong showing at 165, earning third place after winning his final two bouts of the day.
Thaddus Jeffries also looked strong at 184, taking home second place in the weight class.
Engle also breezed through the 197-lb weight class, pinning his first two opponents by the day before winning the championship bout with an 8-0 decision over Ithaca's Dalton Elias.

Brockport wrestling will host their final home dual of the season this Tuesday when they welcome Alfred State for senior day, with bouts beginning at 7 p.m.
