Brockport Loses Heart Breaker, 2-1

CORTLAND, N.Y.— The College at Brockport baseball team witnessed their season come to an end on Friday, as the dropped their second game of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Playoffs, 2-1 against SUNY New Paltz. The Golden Eagles end with an overall record of 18-20, while the Hawks move on to the next stage of the post-season.

Alex Brown was sensational in his 7.1 innings of work and was the main reason why Brockport was able to stay in the game. The pitcher allowed only three hits, walked two and struck out two, before running into some trouble in the eighth inning. After recording the first out, Brown walked a batter and allowed a hit before he was pulled from the contest and Chris Cramer took the mound in relief. After allowing a hit, the freshman geared up and recorded the next two outs to get out of trouble. Cramer continued his momentum in the ninth and tenth inning, pitching perfect 1-2-3 frames.

Offensively, the Golden Eagles struggled to string together hits, but had a variety of opportunities to score after the opposition walked four batters and recorded three errors. Their best opportunities game in the eighth and ninth inning where they were able to put a runner in scoring position in both frames, but unfortunately they were unable to push across the run.

The first run of the game came in the 11th inning. Anthony Eaton was hit by a pitch and then Charlie Serino pitch ran. After a missed pickoff throw by the pitcher moved Serino to second, Liam O'Leary hit a fly-ball to left field that was dropped and it allowed Serino to cross the plater and give Brockport a 1-0 advantage. Unfortunately, errors took their toll as a missed throw in the bottom of the 11th put two runners in scoring position for New Paltz. A base hit brought them home and Brockport fell by a score of 2-1.

Despite a disappointing finish, the Golden Eagles will return a variety of impactful young position players and pitchers as they look to bounce back and battle for a SUNYAC title.
