Wrestling Wins John Summa Invitational

Five Golden Eagles win individual titles

Brockport wins the John Summa Invitational with five individual champs

Freshman Asher Kramer (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern), freshman Ryan Reed (Marion, NY/Rush-Henrietta), junior Eliah Golding (Albany, NY/Colonie), sophomore Robert Troy (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and sophomore John Wilkinson (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) each won individual titles leading The College at Brockport Wrestling team to the team championship at the 26th Annual John Summa Invitational at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, OH.
 
Brockport won the title with 204 points followed by Ohio Northern University, ranked #12 in the latest national poll, (160.5 points) and Lake Erie College (138.5). Wabash College (95) was fourth, RIT (86.5) was fifth and the second group of 10 Brockport wrestlers finished sixth in the team standings.
 
Kramer beat teammate Tyler Marlow (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) in the championship bout at 125 pounds and recorded a pair of technical fall victories in his path to the championship. Marlow won a major decision and pinned two opponents to advance to the championship match.
 
Reed had two decisions and a pin before posting a 7-3 decision in the 133-pound championship match. Matt Ellis (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) was third and Rocco Rosso (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) was fifth in the same weight class.
 
Golding had probably the best day for the Golden Eagles. The junior pinned his way to the title with three consecutive victories all by way of a pin. He recorded pins in 1:05, 1:09 and 1:43 en route to the title at 141 pounds. Scott Witt (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) was sixth at 141 pounds.
 
Troy had several close matches but won them all for the title at 149 pounds. He won an 8-4 decision, a 3-1 decision in the semifinals and captured the title with a 10-8 decision in the championship bout.
 
Wilkinson also had close matches on the way to the title match but posted a major decision 10-2 victory in the title match. He won two 5-3 decisions and a 4-2 decision in the 285-pound bracket.
 
Senior Wheeler Brunschmid (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) took second place in the 184-pound weight class falling in the championship match by a slim 11-8 score. Paul Glover (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) was third at 197 while Clay Neivert (Ossining, NY/Ossining), Kristopher Shirley (Lacona, NY/Sandy Creek) and Justin James (Spencerport, NY/Brockport) were all fourth place finishers for Brockport. Freshman Steven Rispoli (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) took fifth at 157 despite moving up two weight classes for the competition.
