Freshman
Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport) won the 10,000-meter race while both the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relays broke school records leading The College at Brockport Men's and Women's Track & Field teams to 11th place finishes at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship meet that was completed Friday at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.
The Brockport women finished in a three-way tie for 11th place with Moravian and St. Lawrence as each school scored 27 points. Ithaca won the team competition with 68 points followed by Wheaton (MA) with 60 points, Williams (43 points), Amherst (40), Cortland (39), Tufts (36), Rowan (35), MIT (34), Ramapo (28.5) and Colby (28). Brockport finished ahead of 42 other teams in the 55-team competition.
The Brockport men also finished in a tie for 11th place with UMass-Boston and Brockport each scoring 22 points. Bates won the men's team competition with 61 points followed by Rowan (49 points), Ramapo (40), MIT (33), Amherst (29), Oneonta (29), Tufts (28.5), Williams (28), Moravian (25) and RPI (23). The Golden Eagles finished ahead of 51 schools in the 63-team competition.
Malone finished the 10K race with a winning time of 36:23.48 to score 10 points with the first place finish for Brockport. The freshman improved to 24th best in the country in the event as the NCAA Division III Championship meet begins next weekend in California at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The relays for the Brockport men broke school records at the meet with the 4x100 relay of
Eric Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside),
Zachary Brown (Brewerton, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse),
Maurice May (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and
Zack Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) finished fifth with a time of 42.31 seconds shaving more than a full second off the school record set back in 2000.
The 4x400 relay with Nate Mathews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley),
Eric Hine, Brown and
Kevin Wartinger (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) took 10th place overall with a school-record time of 3:19.93. The previous record was set in 2008.
Other top finishers for the Golden Eagles included
Nicole Jones (West Charleton, NY/Galway) with a second place finish in the shot put,
Courtney White (Massena, NY/Massena) taking third in the discus and seventh in the shot put,
Dustin Colgan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) who finished third in the shot put and fifth in the hammer throw,
Darius Favors (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) with a fourth place finish in the discus,
Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport) who took eighth in the pole vault and Mathews who was 6th in the 800-meter run.
