SUNY Brockport Athletics

A Message from President John R. Halstead

College President Dr. John R. Halstead
Intercollegiate Athletics have been an integral part of the student experience at The College at Brockport for nearly 100 years. With seven national championships and hundreds of All-Americans, our proud Golden Eagles have earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest, most competitive Division III programs in the nation.

Opened in 2012, our Special Events Recreation Center, a 150,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, multi-use facility estimated to be at a total cost of $44 million. SERC is first and foremost supports our first-class academic programs, yet also provides enhanced, cutting-edge venues for our recreational and athletic facilities.

While academics come first, a Brockport education extends beyond the classroom.  Participating in athletics teaches numerous life skills that help our student-athletes succeed not only during their years at Brockport, but throughout their future careers.

I strongly encourage students and parents considering The College at Brockport to visit our campus to see our superb athletics facilities and competitive teams. I also invite our alumni to return to their alma mater to cheer on their Golden Eagles. For example, watch a football game on Bob Boozer Field at our newly dedicated Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium or attend a nationally ranked gymnastics match in our updated Tuttle Sports Complex. Our wrestling team—with championship banners galore— each year hosts the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational Tournament. Or see a soccer game at the A. Huntley Parker , Jr. “pitch” named after a renowned coach whose historic team shared a national championship with Penn State.

We are most proud of our student-athletes and their achievements. We value what athletic endeavors offer to our scholar-athletes, the campus community, and to the College. This is reflected in our Brockport Promise: The College at Brockport promises to reveal to each student each day his or her capacity for intellectual, physical and creative accomplishment.

Finally, athletics are part of the total picture when considering The College at Brockport. Our aspiring goal is to become a nationally recognized comprehensive college always focusing on student success. Athletics contribute in meaningful ways to this worthy goal and also to the development of our students in sound mind, body, and spirit—what the Greeks called “arête”—and consistent with our College symbol: Prometheus.
