Senior quarterback Joe Scibilia (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week following a stellar performance in the season-opening 24-2 victory over Lycoming College on Saturday.
Scibilia completed 21 of 34 passes on the day for 324 yards, the second highest-total in his four-year career. Scibilia threw for 353 yards on 39 completions last season against Montclair State. The senior captain tossed two touchdowns against the Warriors, including a 41-yard strike to Joseph Innes (Unadilla, NY/Unatego) in the second quarter to give Brockport a 10-2 lead. Scibilia later found Jake Spalik (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) in the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
For his efforts against Lycoming, Sciblia was also awarded the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Week. Scibilia is the first Golden Eagle to be named NJAC Player of the Week since Spalik was honored during week seven last season. The last Brockport quarterback to earn the award was Jake Graci in 2009.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sept. 8 for the team’s home opener against Buffalo State. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
