Sophomore Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport) of the Brockport women’s cross country team raced to a program-best time at the Fredonia State Invitational and has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week.
Competing at Fredonia, the location of the 2012 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship, Malone sprinted to a Brockport school record time of 22:15.16 on the 6k course. Malone’s time was the top performance of the meet, finishing more than a minute ahead of the second place finisher, teammate Chrissy Wolniewicz (Elma, NY/Iroquois).
Malone’s first-place finish helped the Golden Eagles capture the top overall team spot with 34 points. Host Fredonia finished a distant second with 51 points.
The Golden Eagles will be on the road this weekend, competing at the YellowJacket Invitational, hosted by the University of Rochester. The course will be the location of the 2012 NCAA Atlantic Regionals.
