Freshman wide receiver Jake Spalik (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) racked up a career-high 141 yards receiving on seven catches during a 35-27 home loss to regionally-ranked Rowan University Saturday afternoon to earn The College at Brockport’s Male Athlete of the Week.
Spalik’s career day included a nifty 54-yard catch-and-run play midway through the fourth quarter during a drive that led to Brockport’s final touchdown, a score that trimmed Rowan’s lead to eight points midway through the fourth quarter. The 54-yard catch was a career-high for Spalik, who with 41 catches in 2010 sits in second place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. His 5.9 grabs per game is also second in the NJAC, and his 141 receiving yards against Rowan were the most by a Golden Eagle since Matt Newman’s 188-yard performance during a win over Buffalo State Nov. 14, 2009.
For the year, Spalik has 403 receiving yards and a TD catch, and is averaging 57.6 receiving yards per game. He has been named the NJAC’s Offensive Rookie of the Week three times, for Week’s 1, 4 and 8.
