Junior Vanessa Gillette (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week for the second time this year after helping lead the women’s soccer team to a 2-0 weekend in conference play.
On Friday afternoon, Gillette scored the game-winning goal against Buffalo State as the Golden Eagles dropped the Bengals 3-1. The game-winner was the first of the season for Gillette, a first-year member of the Golden Eagles.
The junior came right back on Saturday to record her first career Brockport hat trick against No. 22 nationally ranked Fredonia. The Blue Devils came into the game after defeating No. 1 nationally ranked William Smith. Gillette scored the team’s first, third, and fifth goals against Fredonia. Two of her goals came unassisted. The hat trick was the first by a Golden Eagle since Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) against Old Westbury in 2010.
Gillette leads the Golden Eagles with eight goals and three assists for 19 points on the year. She is the fastest Brockport player to reach eight goals dating back to the 2005 season. Brockport will travel to Oneonta on Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept. 30 for its next two conference matchups.
