After another record-breaking performance, Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport) of the women’s cross country team has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week. Competing at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble, the sophomore broke her own school record with a time of 21:19.
Malone has now set the Brockport school record on four separate occasions this season. The last four races Malone has competed in has resulted in a school record. On Sept. 28 at Lehigh University, Malone broke her own school record with a time of 22:01. At Oberlin, Malone shaved 42 seconds off her record to place third at the meet.
The Oberlin meet featured some of the top runners from across the New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio areas. The top overall finisher crossed the finish line with a time of 21:09. Malone finished 26 seconds ahead of the next State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) runner.
Next up for Malone and the Golden Eagles is the SUNYAC Championships. The meet will be held at Fredonia where Malone set her first school record on Sept. 8 with a time of 22:15.16 as she finished first overall.
