Freshman Gina Stephan (Clarence, NY/Clarence) picked up another defensive save for The College at Brockport’s field hockey team against Geneseo on Saturday afternoon to earn Brockport’s Female Athlete of the Week honors.
Stephan, who earlier this year became the first freshman in head coach Andrea Zurlo’s 11-year tenure to be named a captain, has seven defensive saves in 2010, second in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). It is her second time winning Female Athlete of the Week.
Even though the Golden Eagles lost to Geneseo, the program clinched the fourth and final playoff berth in the inaugural SUNYAC postseason tournament, which runs Nov. 5-6. Brockport, which tied for fourth in the SUNYAC, owned the tiebreaker advantage on the strength of wins over both Morrisville and Oneonta.
