Sophomore running back Tyrone Nichols (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) ran for 163 yards and caught four passes for 92 yards in a 49-21 victory over Morrisville on Saturday. For his efforts, Nichols has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week.
Against the Mustangs, Nichols had 23 carries, including two touchdowns, and 162 yards, his second-highest total of the season. The sophomore had 165 yards on the ground against William Paterson on Oct. 6. Nichols also hauled in a season-high 92 receiving yards, including a 64 yard receiving touchdown. Brockport has now won nine consecutive games when Nichols scores a rushing touchdown.
In two career games against Morrisville, Nichols has provided two of his best rushing performances in his career. In 2011, Nichols rushed for a career-high 193 yards and scored two touchdowns. In the two games combined, Nichols has rushed for 355 yards and four scores while also catching two passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
Nichols surpassed the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the first time in his career on Saturday. On the season, Nichols has 1,022 rushing yards on 198 attempts for an average of 5.16 yards per carry. The sophomore also has 351 receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns. His single season rushing total ranks sixth on the all-time list while his career total of 1,716 yards also ranks sixth on the career list.
The sophomore finished the regular season leading the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in rushing touchdowns with nine and total touchdowns with 11. Nichols also ranked third in rushing yards per game (102.4) and all-purpose yards (135.5) while ranking fourth in points per game (6.6).
