Senior men’s basketball player Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East) has been chosen at The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending on March 2.
Caruthers had a phenomenal weekend, including helping the Golden Eagles come from behind for an unbelievable 57-56 victory over Plattsburgh to claim the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament Championship in front of 2,000 fans in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
With the game tied and only two seconds left, Caruthers hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line to give Brockport its first lead of the entire game and the eventual win.
In Friday night’s semi-final win over Oswego, Caruthers had a major part in a second half run to put away the Lakers. Caruthers finished the game with 12 points, five rebounds and four steals. Against the Cardinals in Saturday’s championship win, Caruthers scored a team-high 16 points and recorded four steals.
For his strong performance, Caruthers was awarded the SUNYAC Tournament MVP.
The Golden Eagles automatically earn a bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. Brockport will host Morrisville, Scranton and Hobart on Friday night. Scranton will take on Hobart at 5:30 pm and the Golden Eagles will matchup against Morrisville at 7:30 pm. Winners of the Friday night games will play at 7 pm at Saturday.
