Senior Paul Altobelli (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 29. Altobelli scored two goals, including the game-winner against Buffalo State, as Brockport went 1-0-1 for the opening weekend of SUNYAC competition.
In the Golden Eagles first SUNYAC contest of the year, the Bengals put the early pressure on by keeping the ball in Brockport’s defensive zone. Midway through the first half, Altobelli changed the momentum of the game to Brockport’s favor by redirecting a crossing pass off a corner kick past the Bengals goalkeeper.
Brockport maintained the 1-0 lead for most of the game until the team tacked on another goal in the 82nd-minute. With less than five minutes remaining and a 2-0 lead, the Golden Eagles were awarded a penalty kick which Altobelli converted into the final score of the game.
In the second game of SUNYAC play, Brockport hit the road to face Fredonia. After a scoreless first half, Brockport took the lead when Altobelli drilled a low lying crossing path that was headed in by a Golden Eagle teammate. Brockport took the 1-0 lead but was unable to hold on for the victory and settled on a 2-2 tie. The Golden Eagles remained unbeaten on the season at 5-0-4 and have improved their undefeated regular season streak to 13 games.
The Golden Eagles return home for another weekend of SUNYAC play and will face Oneonta for a 4 pm showdown on Friday and New Paltz for a 1 pm contest on Saturday. To stay up to date on all your Golden Eagle Athlete Awards and scores follow Ellsworth on twitter @ellswortheagle.
