Senior Nicole DeRose (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 6. DeRose was able to win an epically long match in women’s tennis single play in an overall 6-3 loss for Brockport to Cortland.

DeRose won 6-4 in the first set against her Red Dragon counterpart but dropped the next one 7-5. In the third and match deciding set, DeRose fell into a hole but rallied to fight off four match points and eventually take the advantage in a super tie breaker to post the 14-12 win.

Last year DeRose was named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Academic Team and Commissioners List. In DeRose’s three years on the team, the Golden Eagles have seen much improvement. After Brockport made great strides last year finishing with a 6-6 record, the Golden Eagles posted a winning record this season. With a 6-4 (2-1 Conference) record in 2014 Brockport is heading into the first round of SUNYAC’s Tennis Championship as the No. 2 seed in the west. Brockport is set to face the East’s No. 3 seed Oneonta on Friday October 10 for a 7 pm match at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
