Junior forward Peter DiLorenzo (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 27. DiLorenzo propelled the Golden Eagles Men’s Soccer team to victory this weekend scoring three goals in a single game against Plattsburgh, helping Brockport secure the third seed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament.
DiLorenzo finished the week with three goals and an assist as Brockport defeated Plattsburgh 3-2 in double overtime and tied Potsdam 2-2 on the road.
The stellar Brockport forward had an unreal performance against Plattsurgh. The Golden Eagles were trailing the Cardinals for much of the game. Although the Golden Eagles were applying consistent pressure the Cardinals held the 2-0 lead late into the second half of play.
DiLorenzo changed that in the 73rd-minute when he scored the first Brockport goal of the game, cutting the Cardinal lead in half. With less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, DiLorenzo gave a Golden Eagle teammate an excellent opportunity for an assist. His teammate capitalized on the moment, sending a pass from midfield to the streaking DiLorenzo. He dribbled the ball by a defender and sent a low lying shot past the goalkeeper to tie the game.
In the second overtime, DiLorenzo made an unbelievable play. He took a crossing pass off his chest and struck the ball midair with his right foot from the top of the box. The ball travelled with laser like precision off the outstretched fingertips of the Cardinal goalie and into the net for the game-winner.
With the win the Golden Eagles clinched the third seed and eliminated Plattsburgh from playoff contention. Brockport will host the sixth-seeded Oswego Lakers at 6 pm on Saturday. To stay up to date on all your Golden Eagle scores and awards follow Ellsworth on twitter @EllsworthEagle.
