Senior Melanie Melewski (New Baltimore, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 23. Melewski set multiple school records, won multiple events and qualified for the NCAA “B” Cut for the Golden Eagles Swimming and Diving team at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships.
In the 100-yard breaststroke Melewski set a new school and meet record which also qualified her for the NCAA “B” Cut while placing first. She swam the course in 1:04.48, beating the previous school and meet record which she set in 2014.
Melewski teamed up with Taylor Schaffert (Lockport, NY/Lockport), Mary Jane Leja (Auburn, NY/Auburn) and Holly Jackson (West Falls, NY/East Aurora) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay setting a new school record and finishing in 1:35.83, under the time required for the NCAA “B” Cut. The same four swimmers also set a new school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team was able to drop more than 14 seconds off of its preliminary time and finished the race with a time of 3:33.63.
Melewski, Schaffert, Leja and Rachel Coia (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) set a new school record during the 200-yard medley relay, placing first with a time of 1:47.20. Melewski was part of the group that set the school record last season. The same group of Melewski, Schaffert, Leja and Coia also set a school record while placing second with a time of 3:57.40 in the 400-yard medley relay.
Individually Melewski won the 200-yard medley and placed second during the 200-yard breaststroke. She finished the medley with a time of 2:10.71 and the breaststroke in 2:25.68.
