Junior pitcher Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 27. Berger was instrumental in the Brockport Softball team clinching a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Playoff bid this week.
Berger finished the week with three wins and one loss all against SUNYAC opponents. On Tuesday she faced Fredonia in the opening game of the doubleheader and pitched six strong innings allowing a single run while striking out eight on her way to victory number one for the week as Brockport won 9-1.
With Brockport in need of another SUNYAC win and trailing early in game two of the doubleheader against Fredonia, Berger came on in relief. She persevered through an additional five more innings pitched and kept Brockport in the game long enough for the Golden Eagles to regain the lead en route to pulling out her second victory of the day in a 10-9 contest.
On Saturday against New Paltz, Brockport had moved one game closer to securing postseason play with a game one 8-1 victory. Brockport was on the verge of the playoffs and Berger responded like an ace pitcher. She threw a complete game shutout allowing only two hits, no walks and struck out five in a 5-0 playoff clinching victory.
Brockport travels to the host site of Cortland and faces Geneseo on Thursday at 11 am in the first round of the six-team double elimination playoff format.
