Senior Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) broke an eight-year old Brockport school record in the weight throw during Saturday's Kent State Invitational. Powell is The College at Brockport’s Female Athlete of the Week.

Powell posted an effort of 16.23 meters (53 feet, 3 inches) to place seventh at the Kent State meet, which featured Division I athletes.

She surpassed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championships in the event. Powell broke Heather Hughes’ previous record of 16.20 meters (53 feet, 1 3/4 inches), set during the 2002-03 season.

Powell has improved her performance in the weight throw in each of the last three meets, going from 14.12 meters to 16.23 meters during that span.
