The College at Brockport’s Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) captured his third straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) weight throw title during Saturday’s indoor track and field championships. Lund, a senior, is Brockport’s Male Athlete of the Week.
Lund was a double-winner at the SUNYAC championships, held inside the Bristol Field House at Hobart College in Geneva, NY.
Lund won the weight throw with a heave of 17.82 meters (58 feet, 5 3/4 inches) and also the shot put with an effort of 15.66 meters (51 feet, 4 1/2 inches) during SUNYAC’s,
Both of Lund’s championship-winning performances provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Division III National Championship meet, which take place March 11-12 in Columbus, Ohio.
Lund’s weight throw effort was 0.54 meters farther than his winning effort from last year, and 1.61 meters better than teammate and runner-up Dustin Colgan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy).
In the shot put, four of Lund’s heaves surpassed 15.14 meters, and he beat the runner-up by 0.14 meters to win his first SUNYAC shot put title.
