Senior midfielder Abby Smith (Mexico, NY/Mexico) scored two goals and added an assist as The College at Brockport advanced into the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro/Upstate NY Women’s Soccer Tournament championship before losing in the finals. Smith, with a team-high nine goals, was named Brockport’s Female Athlete of the Week.
Smith, a starter for much of her four-year varsity career, netted the tying goal in the 58th minute of the quarterfinals against New Jersey City University. Brockport would eventually advance 5-3 in a shootout after Smith converted her penalty kick.
Facing top-seeded Richard Stockton College in the semifinals, Smith assisted on Jess Bush’s (Dryden, NY/Dryden) goal as the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles rallied for a 3-2, double-overtime win that put them into the ECAC Metro/Upstate championship game.
Brockport, which claimed the previous two ECAC Upstate titles, finished 9-9-1, the 20th consecutive season finishing with a .500 or better record.
