Freshman
Melanie Melewski (New Baltimore, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) teamed up with sophomores
Erin Luke (Latham, NY/Shaker) and
Paige Whitney (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) to capture seven total events at Potsdam on Saturday. The three underclassmen led the way to The College of Brockport's victory of Potsdam 180-109.
The three teammates began the race by taking the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:19.12.
Sarah Eisenmenger (North Rose, NY/North Rose Wolcott) was the fourth member of the winning relay. Two events later, Whitney took her lone individual victory of the day in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.02. Melewski won the next event, the 100-yard breastroke at 1:11.81.
Luke continued her dominance of the 50-yard freestyle this season by winning against Potsdam with a time of 25.82. Luke also defeated the field in the 200-yard backstroke. Melewski won her second individual race in the 200-yard breaststroke. The three teamed up once again in the final meet of the day, this time in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Along with
Amy Jessmer (Albion, NY/Albion), the quartet defeated the Potsdam team by nearly five seconds, finishing at 3:54.72.
Also scoring points for the Golden Eagles was Chloe McDonald (Williamsville, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), finishing first in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Hannah Sonner (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.41. Megan Vandenwinckel scored points on the diving board, scoring 165.90 on the 1-meter diving.
