Golden Eagles Fall Short Against Oswego

RESULTS

Junior Kenny Smith (Rochester, NY/ Eastridge) scored a victory in the 100-yard butterfly and earned The College at Brockport a team-high 20 points in a losing effort to the Oswego State Lakers on Saturday. The Golden Eagles lost 127.5 to 172.5.

On the day, the Golden Eagles as a whole set 21 season-best times, including 10 lifetime bests. Head coach Jack Stover credited his team with an impresive meet despite the loss. "We swam well today" said Stover, "We swam the best we could. To add to the positives, our record is 4-1 this year compared to only two wins all of last season."

Smith finished first in the 100-yard fly and also scored points with two second place finishes and a third place finish on the day. Both second place finishes came in relay events. The first was in the 400-yard medley relay where Smith teamed up with Stephen Owen (North Syracuse, NY/C.W. Baker), Chris O'Connell (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North), and Dustin Wurster (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West). In the 400-yard freestyle relay Smith and Wurster came in second along with Nate Dubois (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Joe Klafehn (Hilton, NY/Hilton) with a time of 3:20.42.

O'Connell earned 17 points on the day, including a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.17. Kyle Bree (Newark, NY/Newark) earned a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:40.07. Bree also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.23.

Chris Austin (Middlesex, NY/Naples) scored a meet-high 242.75 in the 3-meter diving and came in second on the 1-meter board to earn 13 points on the day.
