Golden Eagles Split Dual at Alfred

RESULTS

Sophomore Erin Luke (Latham, NY/Shaker) and freshmen Alanna Blasting (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) and Melanie Melewski (New Baltimore, NY/R-C-S) each posted three individual victories to lead The College at Brockport Women's Swimming and Diving team to a 169.5-119.5 victory over Alfred University as the Golden Eagles split a dual meet Saturday at Alfred. The Brockport men dropped a 170-109 decision.
 
Chris Austin (Middlesex, NY/Naples) recorded an 11-dive score of 436.75 which earned him a chance to represent the Golden Eagles at the NCAA Championships.

Luke won the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke events as well as the 50-yard freestyle events and was also the anchor of the 200-yard freestyle relay that swam as an exhibition but posted the best time in the event. Melewski was the top swimmer in the 100-yard breaststroke, 500-yard freestyle and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay for Brockport. Blasting also posted three wins with the top finish in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley.
 
For the Brockport men, the 200-yard freestyle relay with Nathan Dubois (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Joe Klafehn (Hilton, NY/Hilton), Cody Burns (King Ferry, NY/Southern Cayuga) and Dustin Wurster (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) took top honors.
 
Other winners for the Brockport women were Rachel Coia (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) who won the 100-yard butterfly as well as having a part in the winning 200-yard medley relay. Amy Jessmer (Albion, NY/Albion) joined Coia, Melewski and Paige Whitney (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) on the winning relay. Coia added a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, Chloe Macdonald (Williamsville, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) was second in the 500-yard freestyle, Courtney Hallinan (Burlingham, NY/Pine Bush) was second in the 1000-yard freestyle and Mackenzie Wilcox (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had the second fastest time in the 200-yard individual medley despite swimming as an exhibition.
 
For the men, Marc Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) was second in the 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle and posted the second best time in the 200-yard individual medley for Brockport. Chris O'Connell (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) was second in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard medley relay with Burns, O'Connell, Dubois and Chris Heckman (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) finished second as well.
