Mike Hayward (Toronto, ONT) scored a power play goal with 2:11 left in the third period to give The College at Brockport Hockey team a 2-2 tie with Geneseo in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Friday night in the Tuttle North Arena in Brockport.
Brockport (7-12-3 Overall, 3-8-2 SUNYAC) took an took an early lead as sophomore
Brendon Rothfuss (Webster, NY) scored an unassisted goal 8:38 into the game but Geneseo (11-10-1, 5-7-1) knotted the score early in the second period with a goal by Zachary Vit and the score remained tied at 1-1 until the third period.
In the final period, the Knights took a 2-1 lead with a power play goal in the first two minutes of the period and held that slim lead until late in the period.
With Brockport on a two-man advantage, the top line of
James Cody (Schwenksville, PA),
Ian Finnerty (Ardmore, PA) and
Adam Shoff (Port Dover, ONT) controlled the puck in the offensive zone before feeding Hayward the the point who fired a shot past Geneseo goalie Cory Gershon for the tying goal.
Neither team was able to score in the extra session and the game ended in a tie.
The tie puts Brockport in seventh place in the SUNYAC standings and just two points behind Potsdam and three points behind Geneseo with three games to play in the regular season.
