Seniors Shine in Last Home Meet of the Season

Brockport defeated Buffalo State 159-113

The Brockport Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams swept Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon
Results

Nine different members of The College at Brockport Men's Swimming and Diving team captured a first-place finish as the Golden Eagles defeated Buffalo State 159-113 at the James B. Fulton Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. Seven members of the team were honored for Senior Day.

Kenny Smith (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) started off the day for Brockport with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, scoring nine points for the Golden Eagles. Smith came in with a time of 1:52.46. Freshman Erick Zawislak (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) scored a victory for Brockport in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.46. Stephen Owen (North Syracuse, NY/C.W. Baker) and Nathan Waara (Fairport, NY/Fairport) took second and third respectively in the event.

Brockport (2-4) took its third straight victory by taking the top three spots in the 100-yard breakstroke. Matthew Panebianco (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) came out on top with a time of 106:12. Nicholas Bablin (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) came in with a time of 2:18.57 in the 200-yard butterfly and Joe Klafehn (Hilton, NY/Hilton)  edged out Nathan Dubois (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) by .01 seconds to finish first in the 50-yard freestyle. Dubois came right back to finish two seconds ahead of Klafehn in the 100-yard freestyle as Dubois finished with a time of 49.61.

Owen, Zawislak, and Waara finished 1-2-3 in the 200-yard backstroke with Owen registering a time of 2:08.83. Marc Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) finished six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher to take the top spot in the 200-yard breastroke with a time of 2:28.54.

Chris Heckman (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) was the final Golden Eagle to claim a first-place finish as the sophomore came in with a time of 58.58.

Dubois, Klafehn, Owen, Smith, Toth, Doug Heyden (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and Kyle Bree (Newark, NY/Newark) were all honored in their last home meet of their careers.
