Freshman
Jordan Dyer (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) pinned his opponent at 141 pounds and fellow freshman
Cole Tristram (Newton Falls, NY/Clifton-Fine) scored a pin at 197 pounds to lead The College at Brockport Wrestling team to a convincing 32-12 victory over RIT Wednesday night at Clark Gym in Rochester.
The win for Brockport (5-1) clinched another winning season. Brockport's streak of 50 consecutive winning seasons is second only to Iowa State at any level of collegiate wrestling. Head Coach
Don Murray has led the Golden Eagles to winning seasons in each of his 43 years at the helm of the program.
RIT (2-8) scored the first points of the night with a tight 3-1 overtime victory in the 165-pound bout but Brockport rebounded with five straight victories including Tristram's pin at 197 pounds to take a 23-3 lead. Senior
Clay Neivert (Ossining, NY/Ossining) started the streak of wins with a major decision 14-1 victory that was nearly a technical fall win for the Golden Eagles. Neivert scored a late takedown for a 13-1 lead and was awarded the extra point for riding time advantage for the final score.
Sophomore
Jon Casper (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy) scored a technical fall in the 184-pound bout with a 17-3 lead at the end of regulation and earned the 15-point technical fall with the riding time advantage. Tristram needed just 23 seconds into the second period to record his pin at 197 and heavyweight
John Wilkinson (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) fought off a defensive effort by his opponent to score a 6-1 decision.
Matt Ellis (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) was a 13-4 major decision winner in the 125-pound bout as he held a commanding lead in the third period and earned key takedown points near the end of the match after allowing his opponent an uncontested escape.
At 133 pounds,
James McCabe (Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) was in a close match before a hard takedown resulted in an injury that prevented him from continuing.
Dyer responded with a pin in the next match scoring the victory with 1:08 left in the third period. The freshman, who has now won 16 of his last 17 matches, scored near falls in each of the first two periods.
RIT scored its final points with a 9-4 decision in the 149-pound bout and junior
Kristopher Shirley (Lacona, NY/Sandy Creek) finished off the night with a major decision 11-2 win at 157 pounds for the final margin of victory.
Brockport returns to action this weekend at the John Summa Invitational Tournament at Baldwin Wallace College.
