Men, Women Fall on the Road

Brockport men and women fall at Fredonia on Friday night

The College at Brockport Men's and Women's swimming and diving teams were swept at Fredonia on Friday night as the men fell by a score of 131-86 and the women dropped a 134-102 decision. The men fall to 2-5 on the year while the women drop to 4-3.

Jennifer Conklin (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), the school-record holder in the 1650-yard freestyle put up an impressive performance in the event, finishing first with a time of 18:43.31. The junior finished 13 seconds ahead of the first Fredonia finisher.

The Golden Eagles put up two solid performances in relay events on the night. Taylor Schaffert (Lockport, NY/Loclport), Amy Jessmer (Albion, NY/Albion) Rachel Coia (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) and Erin Luke (Latham, NY/Shaker) opened up the meet finishing second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:55.08. The group finished just .24 seconds out of first-place. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Schaffert, Luke, Eva Lankes (Liverpool, NY/Amherst) and Paige Whitney (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) took the top spot with a time of 1:42.52.

Schaffert put up a strong effort to finish first in the 100-yard freestyle. The freshman recorded a time of 55.83. Lankes, this week's Brockport Female Athlete of the Week, won the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:01.36. Melanie Melewski (New Baltimore, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) finished first overall in the 100-yard breastroke with a time of 1:10.85.

For the men, Brockport recorded three first-place finishes on the night. Kenny Smith (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly, coming in with a time of 53.15. Matt Panebianco (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) recorded the best time of the meet in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:07.47.

The men also performed well in the relays. Chris Heckman (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa), Nathan Dubois (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Dustin Wurster (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) and Joe Klafehn (Hilton, NY/Hilton) came in first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome recorded a time of 1:30.87.

Both teams will travel to Monroe Community College on Feb.6 for a dual meet set to begin at 6:00 pm.
