The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team needed a stellar defensive effort to remain undefeated on the season as the Golden Eagles, ranked No. 15 in the nation according to the NSCAA Top-25, salvaged a scoreless tie in double overtime Saturday afternoon against No. 20 St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
Sullivan was credited with five saves on the day but made several more key stops along with the defensive unit of the Golden Eagles (4-0-1) to keep the Saints (3-1-1) off the board. The Saints fired 10 shots in the game with nine coming in regulation play and five in the first half. The Brockport defense shined in the overtime after Dan Turchan (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) was sent off with a red card leaving the Golden Eagles to play a man down for the remainder of the first overtime and the entire second 10-minute overtime period.
The red card came after a questionable call by the referee as a result of a throw-in that deflected off the head of a St. Lawrence player and Turchan was issued his second yellow card of the day.
Sullivan's biggest save came late in the second half when St. Lawrence drove up the field and lofted a ball to the right of Sullivan. A St. Lawrence forward headed the ball toward the goal but Sullivan was able to reach above his head and punch the ball away. The Brockport defenders recovered to knock the ball out of the 18-yard box.
The shutout stretched Sullivan's scoreless streak to 337:45 as he has allowed just one goal this year.
