Matthew Roorda (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) scored the game-winning goal just 3:45 seconds into overtime to lift The College at Brockport men's soccer team over Fredonia 1-0 in the first SUNYAC game of the season.

With the win, the #7 Golden Eagles remain undefeated with an overall record of 6-0-2.

The first half was very back-and-forth. Each team had opportunities to score, but could not find the back of the net. Both teams were playing very physical defense and a lot of the good offensive opportunities were shut down quickly.

Fredonia almost scored on themselves early in the game off of a strong throw in by Bobby Ross (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island). A few minutes later, Kevin Nichols (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) rifled a shot just high of the cross bar. With time running out in the first half, Peter DiLorenzo (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) nearly gave the Golden Eagles the lead, but the Blue Devils goalkeeper came up with a great save.

The second half was very similar to the first. Each team had opportunities, but neither scored. The Golden Eagles put pressure on the Fredonia goalkeeper, but he kept coming up with the save.

In overtime, Ross took a hard shot that was blocked. The Golden Eagles were awarded a corner kick and were able to use it to their advantage. Roorda nailed the ball into the box off the corner kick and scored the game-winner as it bounced off the cross bar and the Fredonia goalkeeper, and into the back of the net at 93:45.

The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday against Buffalo State at 1:00 pm for another home SUNYAC match.
