Box Score Junior Peter DiLorenzo (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) scored two first half goals on headers leading The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Houghton College Wednesday night in Houghton.
The non-conference win came in the final non-SUNYAC game of the season for Brockport (7-1-4). The Golden Eagles have five more conference games before the end of the regular season.
Houghton (5-7) opened the scoring in the 24th minute after an initial shot deflected off one of the Brockport defenders. The low shot snuck past junior Casey Sullivan (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) giving the Highlanders a 1-0 lead.
Less than two minutes later, DiLorenzo knotted the score heading the ball in off a corner kick by junior Patrick Sprague (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport).
With less than five minutes left in the first half, DiLorenzo scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year with another header – this time off a short crossing pass as junior Matthew Roorda (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) and senior Nick Cafarelli (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) were both awarded assists on the play.
The Golden Eagles controlled the majority of play in the second half but were limited to three shots after leading the first half with a 10-5 shots margin. Houghton had just one shot on goal in the second half as senior
Max Drexler (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) was able to make the diving save to secure the victory. Drexler played the second half after Sullivan made three saves in the opening 45 minutes of action.
