Sophomore Cole Tristram (Newton Falls, NY/Clifton Fine) and junior Jeff Palmeri (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) each placed second leading The College at Brockport Wrestling team to a fourth place team finish Saturday at the University of Mount Union Invitational in Alliance, OH.
Tristram took second in the 285-pound bracket and Palmeri was the runner up in the 184-pound weight class. Joining Tristram and Palmeri on the awards stand for the Golden Eagles were Kevin O'Hagan (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) who was fifth at 125 pounds, Bryan Mongiello (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) who was 8th at 141 pounds, Jordan Dyer (Chenengo Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) who was third at 149 pounds and Tyler Lusht (Binghamton, NY/Chenengo Forks) who took third at 174 pounds.
Tristram lost the championship match in overtime with a 2-1 loss. He opened the tournament with a 2-1 tie breaker victory and then pinned his way to the title match. He pinned his second opponent in 4:36 and then scored a quick 36-second pin in the semifinal round to earn a spot in the title match.
Palmeri won his first bout with a pin in 2:12 and then scored a major decision 13-2 victory before winning a 5-2 decision in the semifinal round.
Lusht was dominant in the 174-pound bracket. He pinned his first two opponents both in 1:15 before a 9-5 loss in the semifinal round forcing him into the consolation bracket. He pinned his first consolation opponent in 1:54 and the pinned his opponent in the consolation final in 1:25 to take third place.
Dyer lost a tough 3-1 decision in the semifinal match and then scored a 2-1 win in the third-place bout for the Golden Eagles.
