Junior goalie Jared Lockhurst (Caledon, ONT) made 33 saves including double-digit totals in the first and third periods for The College at Brockport Hockey team but a second period goal was the difference in a 1-0 loss to Plattsburgh Friday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at the Tuttle North Arena in Brockport.
Plattsburgh (2-0 Overall, 2-0 SUNYAC), ranked No. 7 in the country in the latest USCHO.com poll, had a 14-6 shots advantage in the first period by Lockhurst was able to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard.
In the second period, a shot from the point got past Lockhurst for the only goal of the game as Plattsburgh took a 1-0 lead with 6:28 left in the period.
Brockport (0-3, 0-1) fought off two penalties in the first period and three more in the second period as Plattsburgh finished the game 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
In the third period, Brockport had a couple late scoring chances to tie the game with the best chance coming with 7:30 left in the period. Senior Bobby Chayka (Hardwick, NJ) took a pass at the point and skated in two strides to the top of the faceoff circle and fired a hard shot toward the upper corner of the goal that missed the goal by inches high and wide.
Later in the period, Lockhurst made three quick saves on a Plattsburgh rush including one with a diving stop with just over two minutes left to play. Brockport took Lockhurst out of the game for the final 1:15 for the extra attacker but could not score the equalizer.
