Box Score

Sophomore Chase Nieuwendyk (Georgetown, ONT) scored late in the first period and freshman transfer Nate Pelligra (Webster, NY) scored 6:18 into the second period to tie the score for The College at Brockport Hockey team but Geneseo scored the only power play goal of the game two minutes later and held on for a 3-2 victory Friday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference game in the Tuttle North Ice Arena in Brockport.

The Golden Eagles (6-11-3 Overall, 3-7-1 SUNYAC), wearing a specially designed Saves for a Cure night jersey fell behind 2-0 as the Knights (15-5, 9-2) scored twice in the first 15:34 for the early lead.

As the time was running out in the first period, Nieuwendyk scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead in half for Brockport as the teams headed to the locker room for the first intermission.

Brockport came out of the break with more energy and evened the score six minutes into the stanza as Pelligra knotted the game at 2-2.

Just 20 seconds later, Pelligra was whistled for a tripping penalty and Geneseo took advantage of the extra-man opportunity scoring with just 19 seconds left in the power play to take the 3-2 lead.

Brockport had a 10-7 advantage in shots in the third period but could not find the back of the next to force overtime.

Jared Lockhurst (Caledon, ONT) made 25 saves for Brockport.

The same two teams play again at 7 pm Saturday in Geneseo.
