Seniors Taylor Schaffert (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Melanie Melewski (New Baltimore, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) each won multiple events for The College at Brockport Swimming and Diving team as both men's and women's teams stumbled to losses Saturday afternoon in the G. Hal Chase Gymnasium pool on the campus of Oneonta.
Schaffert won the 50-meter frestyle and 100-meter backstroke, while setting a new a pool record in the 100-meter backstroke in Oneonta. Melewski won the 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter breaststroke. Melewski also set an Oneonta pool record the breaststroke event.
Shaffert teamed up with Ellie Jones (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), Rachel Coia (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) and Holly Jackson (West Falls, NY/East Aurora) to win the 400-meter medley relay.
Sophomore Mary Jane Leja (Auburn, NY/Auburn) won the 100-meter freestyle while senior diver Lydia Allen (Cortland, NY/Cortland) won the 1 meter dive, also setting a pool record.
On the men's side, Nik Von Stackelberg (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) won the 500-meter freestyle , while senior Dustin Wurster (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) came in second in the 50-meter freestyle.
The Golden Eagles have two swim meets at home within the next week as they are set to face Monroe Community College Wednesday at 6 pm and Buffalo State on Saturday at 1 pm.
