Nieuwendyk Scores Hat Trick in Hockey Win

Junior leads Brockport past Morrisville 7-3 as Golden Eagles record season best goal total

Junior Chase Nieuwendyk (Georgetown, ONT) scored three goals and added two assists leading The College at Brockport Hockey team to a convincing 7-3 victory over Morrisville Friday night in the Tuttle North Ice Arena in Brockport. The same two teams will meet again Saturday night in Brockport.

Nieuwendyk scored his first goal midway through the first period to give Brockport (9-6-1 Overall, 4-3-1 SUNYAC) an early 2-0 lead. Senior Bobby Chayka (Hardwick, NJ) scored the first goal of the game five minutes into the contest and Nieuwendyk made it 2-0 2:25 later.

Freshman Zac Sikich (Oak Park, CA) made it a 3-0 Brockport lead at the 9:27 mark of the second period before Morrisville (4-8-5, 2-5-2) scored with 1:03 left in the period to cut the lead to 3-1.

Nieuwendyk had an assist on the Sikich goal in the second and then scored his second of the game 3:30 into the third period to give the Golden Eagles a 4-1 advantage. Less than a minute later, Morrisville added its second goal of the game to cut the lead in half but Sikich scored his second of the game four minutes later with another assist from Nieuwendyk to make it a 5-2 score.

At the 10:37 mark of the third period, Nieuwendyk completed the hat trick as Sikich and Chris Luker (New Hartford, NY) each assisted on the play.

The Mustangs made it 6-3 at the 13:02 mark but exactly two minutes later, Ryan Kangas (Williamstown, MA) scored to cap the scoring. The goal by Kangas gave the line of Sikich, Nieuwendyk and Kangas six goals and four assists. Luker added four assists while Troy Polino (Limerick, PA) and David Horan (Kennebunk, ME) each added one assist.

Aaron Green (Mt. Albert, ONT) made 27 saves to improve his record to 8-2 with his seventh consecutive victory.
