Senior Alanna Blasting (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) won multiple events for The College at Brockport Swimming and Diving team as the Golden Eagles fell to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Fredonia Saturday afternoon 182-116 for the women and 190-106 for the men. Senior Dustin Wurster (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) had a strong day for the Golden Eagles men.
Blasting won two events individually for Brockport including both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly. In the 100-yard butterfly Blasting narrowly eclipsed the time of teammate and runner up Rachel Coia (Rochester, NY/Spencerport). Blasting finished strong on the second length of the pool to pass Coia with a time of 1:04.01 compared to Coia's 1:04.09. In the 200-yard butterfly Blasting caught and surpassed Coia in the last 100 yards finishing with almost a second to spare with a time of 2:23.99.
Taylor Schaffert (Lockport, NY/Lockport) also had a strong meet for the Golden Eagles winning the 100-yard backstroke and the 50-yard freestyle. In the backstroke event Schaffert out swam her nearest competitor by more than a second completing her 100 yards in 1:00.84. She completed the 50-yard freestyle in 24.94 seconds. Melanie Melewski (New Baltimore, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) finished exactly a second ahead of Fredonia's closest swimmer with a time of 1:07.13.
Wurster won the 50-yard freestyle a split second ahead of Fredonia with a time of 22.54 seconds. He also anchored the group of Erick Zawislak (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Austin Moyer (Newport News, VA/Woodside) and Chris Heckman (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) swam the 200-yard medley relay in 1:43.22, more than three seconds ahead of Fredonia.
Nik Von Stackelberg (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.28. He also finished second in the 200-yard backstroke event.
Lydia Allen (Cortland, NY/Cortland) finished second in the one meter dive in the women's bracket with a score of 227.30. Gabriel Arias (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) finished second for the men in the three meter dive with a score of 258.65.
Brockport travels for the Geneseo Invitational on February 7 for a 10 am meet, the final meet of the season before SUNYACs begin.
