Brockport swim and dive picks up pair of wins against Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated conference foes SUNY Potsdam on Saturday.
 
The women's team picked up a 140-109 win while the men secured a 146-132 victory.
 
On the men's side, the Golden Eagles had a strong showing with six first-place finishes. Liam Henry had a pair of first-place swims, in the 50 and 100 freestyle. The freshman swam the 50-yard event in a time of 22.63, and swam the 100-yard race in 50.26. In the 100-yard backstroke, Matt Futia took first with a time of 1:04.15, while Chase Carson touched first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.57.
 
On the diving side, the Brockport men's divers dominated. In both the one-meter and three-meter event, the Golden Eagles swept the boards in the top three positions. Gabriel Arias took first in both events, with a 239.35 score in the three-meter, and a 259.2 in the one. Matthew Merchant placed second in both events, while Zealand Miller took third in the same events.
 
The women's team had several standout performances in the pool. Mary Jane Leja swam for three first-place touches, in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.20), 50-yard freestyle (25.47) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.38). Ameera Bhanji and Paige Kolar each picked up two wins, with Bhanji placing first in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly in times of 1:04.14 and 1:26.64 respectivley. Kolar swam the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:53.61, and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:54.53 for first in both events. Other winners on the day included Jenna Gleason in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.58) and Holly Jackson in the 200-yard IM (2:28.72).
 
On the boards the women also had a strong showing, sweeping the top three spots in all events. Megan Kilgallon took first in both the one-meter and the three-meter, with scores of 233.75 and 233.85 respectivley. Kate Nau took second in both events (216.20, 208.25), with Brooke Leddon taking third in both as well (178.85, 203.95).
