BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Saturday in their regular season home finale against Fredonia.
The men's team fell against the Blue Devils by a count of 167-108 while the women fall by a margin of 149-113.
Despite the final scores, there were some bright performances on both sides for the Golden Eagles. For the men, the 200-yard freestyle relay teams took the top two finishes in the meet. The team comprised of
Brian Cotroneo,
Liam Henry,
Matthew O'Donnell and
Chase Carson took first, touching in a time of 1:34.80. The other Golden Eagles team, made up of Adam Bauman,
Jacob Weiand, Matthew Futia and
Ryan O'Meara took second with a swim of 1:40.73.
The men also went one-two in the 200-yard IM, with
Chase Carson taking first with a time of 2:11.87 and
Reese Michaels placing second with a swim of 2:24.86. Another first place finish for the golden Eagles came in the 100-yard freestyle, when Henry swam a 50.27 to edge his Fredonia competitor. In the 200-yard freestyle, Futia took second, with a time of 2:01.73 and in the 100-yard back stroke,
Kyle Kelly finished in second with a 1:00.14.
On the boards, the Golden Eagles swept the one-meter event, with
Gabriel Arias taking first in the event with a score of 280.15.
Matthew Merchant placed second with a 229.45 while Zealand Miller took third with a 164.10. On the three-meter dive, Arias took second with a score of 257.90.
On the women's side, the Golden Eagles relay teams also had a good showing. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of
Jenna Gleason,
Amanda Falsey,
Holly Jackson and
Mary Jane Leja took first with a swim of 1:58.23. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team made up of Falsey, Jackson,
Paige Kolar and Gleason took first again, this time with a swim of 1:49.81.
Individually Brockport had some strong swims as well. Leja had a pair of first place finishes, with the first coming in the 50-yard freestyle, touching in a time of 24.87. the sophomore also took first in the 200-yard free, swimming a time of 2:05.13. Kolar also placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle, with a swim of 12:12.37. The Golden Eagles also took first in the 100-yard butterful and the 200-yard backstroke, with Jackson taking the butterfly event with a time of 1:05.67 and Gleason taking the back with a swim of 2:23.93.
Meghann Kilgallon took a pair of seconds in the diving events, with a score of 242.70 on the three-meter dive and a 245.90 on the one-meter board.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Feb. 2 when they head to Geneseo for a SUNYAC dual meet.
