Brockport Posts 3-2 Overtime Win Over Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's soccer team picked up a thrilling overtime win in their season finale on Saturday, bypassing SUNY Potsdam, 3-2.
 
The Golden Eagles finish the 2016 season with a mark of 3-10-2 and a 2-6-1 record in SUNYAC play, while the Bears have a record of 8-6-2 and 3-5-1 in league play.
 
Brockport got on the board first, when in the 18th minute Quintin Volpe put away a Jake Fusilli pass to post the early 1-0 lead. The Green and Gold enjoyed their lead for just a short time, as the Bears found the back of the net off a rebound in the 34th minute to knot the contest at 1-1. The tie would carry through to the halftime break.
 
In the second half, Brockport had a handful of looks at a goal but couldn't capitalize, while fighting to hold off Potsdam. The Golden Eagles saw their first deficit of the contest when in the 71st minute, the Bears struck again to take a 2-1 lead. The Green and Gold weren't ready to throw in the towel just yet, as David LaPietra fought to post a score off a Michael Meyers set up in the 85th minute to tie the game at 2-2, forcing extra time to determine a winner.
 
It didn't take long, when just over a minute into the first overtime period, Brockport found the back of the net. Jordan Ganance buried a Jake Fusilli rebound to seucre the 3-2 victory.
 
The Golden Eagles played a well-fought game in a close contest that saw each team with 13 shots, while the Green and Gold had nine on goal. Brockport was also awarded eight corners while not allowing any for the Bears.
 
Ryan Cassidy got the start, and saw 45 minutes of action with three saves, while Austin McBride picked up the final 46 minutes of action, making one stop in goal.
