BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's and women's swimming and diving teams both posted victories in their 2016-17 home opener against Monroe Community College. The men won 155 to 79, while the women posted a 139 to 74 win.
On the men's side, Matthew O'Donnell, Chase Carson, Kyle Kelley and Eric Eggert teamed up for a first place finish in the 400-yard medley relay, touching in 3:46.27. Carson also took first in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:10.19 while Eggert finished third in 2:15.54.
Austin Moyer took first in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle with respective times of 1:52.88 and 5:23.83.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Liam Henry touched in 22.34 seconds for a first place finish while Brian Cotroneo finished third in 24.19. Henry also took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.89.
Kaitlin Dunning earned a first place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:43.50, beating out the competition by 0.51 seconds. The freshman also took first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:38.94.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Rebekah Wilkinson finished in 2:13.11 to take first.
The Brockport women took two of the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle behind Mary Jane Leja and Martha Ruether. Leja finished first in 25.03 while Ruether took third in 26.07. Leja also tabbed a first place finish with a time of 55.99 in the 100-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Ruether earned a first place finish with a time of 2:40.23.
Holly Jackson finished first in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:24.02. In the 200-yard backstroke, Dee Logory finished first with a time of 2:19.83.
The Golden Eagles swept the podium in both the men's and women's one-meter dive. Loren Sayers finished first with a score of 201.75, Kate Nau in second with 188.25, and Brooke Leddon third with 169.40. On the men's side, Gabe Arias scored 259.75 for a first place finish, Matthew Merchant second with 251.00, and Chris Miller third with 207.95.
Brockport also swept both podiums in the three-meter dive. For the women, Meghann Kilgallon finished first with 226.80, Leddon second with 208.45 and Sayers third with 188.15. Arias took first for the men with 249.30, Merchant second with 233.60 and Miller third with 192.69.
