ALFRED, N.Y. – Brockport wrestling got off to a good start in dual meets Wednesday evening, defeating Alfred State 30-12 to move to 1-0 on the season.
Dillon Stowell got things started for the Golden Eagles at the 125-lb weight class, going the distance with Alfred's Patrick Lehman before winning by decision, 6-0 to earn six quick points for the team.
Kevin Marcano was next up, defeating his opponent 12-0 to extend the team lead to 12-0.
After
Sean Peacock was awarded six more points via forfeit, Alfred was finally able to get on the board when Joshua O'Neil defeated
Casey Provost in a tight 10-8 decision, earning three points for the Pioneers.
Alfred closed the gap even more at 174 and 184, earning nine points via two wins (decision, fall) to make the score 18-12 Brockport.
That would be the end of the Alfred scoring the day, as
Triston Engle and
Jacob Morris dominated the 197 and 285 weight classes, each winning by fall. Engle took 2:20 seconds to pin his opponent, while Morris needed just 0:44 seconds to earn the final six points for the team, bringing the final score to 30-12.
Wrestling will continue its season this weekend when they travel to Alliance, Ohio for the Mount Union Tournament.
