BROCKPORT, N.Y. –
Nikolas Sgaraglio netted his first collegiate goal to help The College at Brockport men's soccer team bypass SUNY New Paltz 1-0 on Friday in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play.
The Golden Eagles improve to 2-5-1 on the year and 1-2 in league play while the Hawks fall to 5-2-4 and 1-2 in conference action.
The Green and Gold got on the board in the 23rd minute when
David LaPietra fired a shot that deflected off the New Paltz goal keeper and
Nikolas Sgaraglio was there to finish into the bottom right corner to give Brockport the 1-0 advantage. The Golden Eagle defense stepped up, blanking the Hawks in a first half that saw nine New Paltz shots.
In the second half, the Green and Gold only allowed one shot from their counterparts to hold on for the 1-0 decision.
Brockport was on target in the contest, with four shots on goal to the Hawks two.
Joseph Romano picked up his first win of the season, with two saves in the outing and his first shut out of 2016.
The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 1 when they host SUNY Oneonta.
