Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brockport’s matchup with Geneseo ends in 0-0 draw

GENESEO, N.Y.— The College at Brockport men's soccer team was evenly matched on Saturday as they faced off against fellow State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) team, SUNY Geneseo. Through 110 minutes of play neither team scored and it ending in a 0-0 draw.

Brockport's record on the season moves to 7-3-3 and 2-1-2 in SUNYAC play. The Knights now have a record of 6-4-2 and 2-2-1 in league contests.

The Green and Gold came out firing in the first half shooting 12 times, but were unable to take the lead. Goal keeper Joseph Romano helped keep the Knights off the board by making six saves while facing nine shots. Neither team was able to net a goal and the score remained 0-0 heading into the break.

The Golden Eagle offense continued to rattle off shots, coming up with eight more in the second half, but they were still unable to score the go-ahead goal. Defensively, Brockport faced 20 shots themselves throughout the entire game, but held off the Knights. With neither team able to net a goal in regulation, the match headed into overtime with a 0-0 score.

"It was a well-played defensive game, our backline and goalie played outstanding in posting a shutout," commented head coach Gary LaPietra. "We were very organized and marked up well throughout the match."

Overtime saw much of the same thing with the Green and Gold firing five more shots in the 20 minutes of extra time, but with neither team able to crack the scoreboard the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

"I was very pleased with the play of Peter DiStefano, Nolan Byrnes, Chris Kinsley & Cameron Beale as they gave us a big lift off the bench when the momentum changed," stated coach Lapietra.

Brockport will continue their road trip on Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. when they travel to Oswego State for a SUNYAC matchup.
