Swimming And Diving Kicks Off SUNYAC Action At Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon, with the women coming out on top and the men falling in a close contest. The Brockport women's team improves to 2-2 on the season, while the men drop to 0-4.

Brandon Amthor picked up a pair  of wins for Brockport on the day, taking home the top spot in both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly events. In the freestyle, he dusted all of the other competitors, beating the second place finisher by over 11 seconds with a time of 1:47.15.

Matthew O'Donnell won both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events, and was also apart of the 400 yard freestyle relay that the Golden Eagles took the top spot in, along with teammates Rainer Grimme, Brian Cotroneo, and Amthor.

Logan Gregory rounded out the top performances on the men's side, taking the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.04 before also winning the 200 yard IM by less  than a second.

The women got off to a hot start to their day with a victory in the 300 yard medley relay. Dee Logory, Martha Ruether, Abby Tripp, and Rebekah Wilkinson were the four swimmers in that relay. Ruether kept up that hot streak in her individual events, winning the 100 yard breaststroke, and 100 yard freestyle.

Kaitlin Dunning was also dominant in the meet, especially in the distance events, winning the 1000 yard freestyle by 35 seconds before also taking the 200 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle. Where she excelled in distance, Jenna Gleason was just as good in the sprints, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a 25.87 finals time.

Meghann Kilgallon once again dominated the diving events for the Brockport women's team, winning the 1M dive and placing second behind teammates Loren Sayers in the 3M event.

Brockport swimming and diving will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Oswego, N.Y. for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Lakers.
