LEESBURG, FLA. – The College at Brockport baseball team split their double-header against Farmingdale Saturday morning on day one of their Spring break road trip.
Sam McCumiskey took his first loss of the season in the opening game, with
Austin Spindler claiming the win in game two.
Game 1: L, 6-0
The opening game was a defensive struggle for a majority of the seven inning contest, with Farmingdale scratching across the only two runs of the game in the first five innings.
McCumiskey gave up a run in the first before settling down and holding the Rams scoreless for the next two frames. Nick Osburn extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth when he drove a pitch to right center that just cleared the wall for his first homer of the season.
The Golden Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the fifth when an error, base hit, and a walk had them threatening with one out. They were unable to convert on the chance however, as an infield pop-out and a ground-out back to the pitcher got the Rams out of trouble.
Farmingdale did a majority of their damage in the bottom of the sixth, using two hits, three walks, a hit batsman, and an error to scratch across four runs, extending their lead to six with just an inning left to play.
Jack Wallwork was able to draw a walk to get on base with two outs in the top of the seventh, but it was to no avail, as the Green and Gold were held scoreless in the opener which Farmingdale took 6-0.
Game 2: W, 7-1
It was a different story in game two, as the Brockport bats came alive for seven runs on ten hits.
Joe Bender led the way, going three-for-three at the plate, driving in a Brockport run and scoring one as well.
It didn't take long for Brockport to break onto the scoreboard in game two, as they plated baserunners in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. Farmingdale scored one of their own in the top of the third to make it 2-1, which is how the score would stand for the next three innings.
The bottom of the sixth was a breakout inning for the Golden Eagles, as they scored five runs on four hits, all but putting the game away.
Austin Hall drew a walk to open the frame, but was thrown out at second on a bunt back to the pitcher from
Luke Gilbert.
After Bender singled to put two men on with one out, two straight passed balls moved him to third and scored Gilbert.
Tom Kretzler was up next, and walked to put runners on first and third before
Mike D'Eletto bombed a double over the left fielders head, allowing Bender and
Dane Cala, who was pinch-running for Kretzler, to score. D'Eletto advanced to third on the throw home, putting him in prime scoring position with one out.
Drew DeBlasiis drove in the fourth run of the inning, grounding out to the second baseman which allowed D'Eletto to score. With two out and nobody on,
Avery Brooks got the hit parade rolling again, doubling for the second time in the game down the left field line. Two batters later after
Paul Ludden was hit by a pitch, Wallwork drove in the final run of the inning and the game, singling over the shortstops head to score Brooks.
Spindler threw all seven innings for the Golden Eagles in game two, picking up his first win of the young season. The senior had his A-game in this contest, allowing just one run on seven hits in the contest while striking out five.
Brockport will play six more games throughout the course of the week, beginning tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. when they square off with Rutgers-Camden at Lake Myrtle Park.
